The Secret is Out – Arm & Finger Knitting New Book!

Y’all remember all those times I was talking about a Top Secret yarn related project I was working on? Well, today is the day that I can finally share with you exactly what this Secret Project is!

Folks, I wrote a book!

Arm & Finger Knitting CoverI wrote an arm & finger knitting book!

I don’t know about y’all, but I’m always game to try my hand at something new, to take on a new creative challenge, so when the lovely folks at CICO Books asked if I knew anything about arm and finger knitting and whether I might be able to come up with a collection of designs I just couldn’t pass it up! What fun!

Arm knitting is rad! It’s a bit bonkers to think that you don’t actually need knitting needles to create knitted fabric. I had such a great time working on the designs for this book – learning how yarn behaves when knitting with your arms and fingers, how to create different stitches and textures and reapplying all my yarn based understanding to a completely new and exciting medium.

What a blast! Because you have all patiently put up with me chattering away about this Secret Project and manically working towards deadlines, I thought that it would be kinda cool to share with you some of my favourite makes from the book… so, here is some yarn-based eye candy for you!

I used a heap of different yarns for this book – everything from super chunky yarns for the big makes and DK for some of the finger knitting and smaller projects. You can get some really impressive textures and finishes by using a number of yarn held together a worked all at once as one strand! T-shirt or fabric yarns look really great too!

This looks fab, I’ve been wanting to get into arm knitting for a while, since the day a young lady came into my LYS looking for the longest, thickest yarn imaginable, so she could arm knit something! I had to google it, but I’ve been dying to try ever since!

Knitting has always beaten me. I have no idea why. Maybe it is the needles! So, this could be it. The secret to my success with yarn 😉

    Congratulations on a great-looking book.

Congratulations on your book and thank you for the international giveaway! I haven’t tried arm knitting before but I think it’s a matter of time. Also I like the idea of finishing a project as soon as I get my hands of it.

I think this is a great idea and I’d love to try it, especially as I’ve only ever knitted one thing with needles, with my dear, now departed mother coaching me along step by step. Great-looking website and a fab idea for a book – and extra kudos for spelling ‘y’all’ correctly!

This looks awesome, well done! I’d love to have a go at this; last time I tried any kind of knitting I was 8 or 9 and my Mum said I was a nightmare to teach so gave up! Maybe this would be more my thing?!
