Salted Chocolate Bacon Bites
When I have a few spare minutes in the kitchen I love to try out some of the things that I’ve spotted over on Pinterest – sometimes I like to try out the whole recipe, sometimes I like to pick up on flavour combinations, use of spices or even a cooking technique to make meal (and treat) times a little more exciting!
I think that my tastes in treats foods is probably best described as Hipster – I mean, I’m always first in line for Pumpkin Spiced Latte each season, I can’t get enough of scrummy baking crazes like Whoopie Pies and I’m never far from the table when there is Ice Tea on offer! So, if I were to tell you that Chocolate Covered Bacon featured on my food boards more than a couple of times, you’d probably not be surprised!
So, my friends, let’s succumb to the ultimate indulgence, let’s try Salted Chocolate Bacon Bites Grab your supplies…
As the name suggests, you’re going to need chocolate, bacon and sea salt. Streaky bacon is the best option for this recipe as turns out super crisp when it’s grilled. I prefer to use a chocolate with a high cocoa content and Maldon Sea Salt is a kitchen must-have for me as it’s not only delicious but it’s local (to me!) – but, you can pick our your faves to make this just how you like it!
Under a hot grill, cook the streaky bacon until it is crisp. Blot away the excess oil and leave to cool slightly before roughly chopping into bite sized pieces.
Break the chocolate into blocks and place in a Pyrex bowl over a gently simmering pan of water to melt the chocolate. Be sure not to let the water touch the base of the bowl and keep stirring to prevent the chocolate becoming burnt, which will ruin the taste.
Remove the melted chocolate from te heat and allow to stand for a minute to cool slightly. Dip in the bacon bites, ensuring that both sides are covered. Lay out on a piece of baking parchment a sprinkle a few crumbs of sea salt over the chocolate and allow to cool fully before diving right in to this all utterly indulgent treat!
Is this the ultimate in savoury and sweet food combos? Why don’t you try it and let me know!
