Chocolate and chilli are a pairing as old as time. And, adding a firey kick of chilli to a much of steaming hot chocolate is just about the best way to enjoy this favoursome duo.

As the weather has taken a bit of a turn and winter is closing in around us, I though it was about time I made a hot drink that warms you through in more ways than one! So, my friends, here is the Smoked Chili Spiked Hot Chocolate

Chilli Spiked Hot Chocolate Made Peachy

Grab your supplies…
Two heaped tablespoons of rich dark chocolate finely grated
Mug of milk
Tabasco Chipotle Pepper Sauce
Large marshmallow (oversized pumpkin shapes are optional!)

This will make a mug of hot and firey chocolate, scale up the quantities to create a larger yield and keep it warm on the stove for your wintertime guests to enjoy!

Tabasco pepper sauce is one of my kitchen cupboard staples and it was only a matter of time before it found it’s way into a mug of hot cocoa! You can, of course, add in a regular Tabasco or pepper sauce, but I love the rich smoky flavours of Chipotle, which really add depth to this recipe.

Add a splash of boiling water to the grated chocolate, just enough to melt it and to form a rich, thick chocolate paste. Stir in 1-2 teaspoons of Tabasco Chipotle peper sauce.

Warning: OK. Here’s where I should probably come clean and let you know that I’m fanatical about firey foods, so the amount of pepper sauce that you add will need to be something that you feel comfortable with. We all have different tastes, so if you’re not confident with chillies, try adding a few drops at a time to the chocolate and tasting until you have just the right mix. You will want to have just enough kick from to chili to warm your lips and leave a smokey aftertaste to the combine with the sweetness of the chocolate on your palate. I don’t want you guys blowing your heads off here, so test it out to get just the right mix for you!
Chilli Spiked Hot Chocolate Made PeachyCombine the melted chocolate and chilli mix with steaming hot milk and pour into your favourite mug, top with a crown of foamed milk and a large marshmallow. The marshmallow, not only looks cute (particularly this supersized pumpkin one!) it will also slowly melt with the heat of the steamed milk and add another wave of sweetness to the drink, this sweetness will take a bit more of the edge off the heat from the chipotle pepper sauce too!

Finish with a sprinkle of grated dark chocolate – just the perfect treat for warming you up after a cold evening of Trick Or Treating!
