Style Sunday: Super Socks

Autumn is starting to settle in; there’s a chill to the air, and right away my thoughts have turned to socks.

There is something about a lovely pair of socks that makes you feel as though all is right with your world. Even better if they are socks that are hand knitted in your chosen colours or style of yarn.
Wuru2I love these Wuru Socks – part of the Artesano Definition 1 Collection. I am fanatical about long socks, so when I designed these socks I wanted to create the perfect pair of socks. Cosy, comfy and super colourful! Striped socks are a lot of fun, even more so if you twist and carry the yarns for each coloue change so that you don’t have eleventy billion ends to weave in when you’ve finished.

Now, these Mushy Pea green and Peacock blue shades of might not be your favourite colour combinations, so how about these tasty combos?
SockYarnsWhy not try out Cream Cake & Tornado, Kidney Bean & Denim or Kimono & Azure from the Artesano Sock Yarn range? I’m pretty sure that you’re going to find a duet of tones that really float your sock knitting boats.

Long socks are the ideal fashion addition for the season, whether you keep them hidden under your trousers, or tuck your jeans into them and have them peeping out over your winter boots, or even add them over a pair of woolly tights with a pretty frock – there isn’t a garment in your wardrobe that won’t be transformed to suit the season with the addition of a pair of super long socks! Thinking about socks makes me want to do two things. Not in any particular order – although sometimes at the same time- the first is knitting socks and the second is browsing socks on Ravelry and adding new designs to my favourites. Here are the latest sock designs that I’ve earmarked for knitting this season.

Something with a little cute cable:
Sock1Little Cable Knee Highs By The Purl Bee or available on Ravelry

Something with a vintage flavour:
Sock2
Gentleman’s Socks for Evening Wear by Nancy Bush published in Knitting Vintage Socks and The Knitter Issue 11 – find out more on Ravelry

Something with a whole heap of colourwork:
Sock3Garden Gate by Emily Johnson available from Knitty or on Ravelry

Well, if that’s not got you hunting out a set of double pointed needles then I guess nothing will! Find more of my knitty favourites on my Ravelry Page Are you on Ravelry? Let’s be friends – I’d love to see what knits you’ve made and which ones you’ve been favouriting this season!
